Even once you’re past the start-up stage of a make money from home business, there’s still plenty mistakes to be made…
And most of them are going to be made in your first year!
Here are the top five first-year mistakes to avoid:
1. Waiting for Customers to Come to You
You simply can’t do this! You have to go out and actively find customers. Talk to people, call them, meet with them, go to meetings, offer free seminars, put yourself where your clients would be – whatever you do, just don’t sit there!
2. Spending Too Much on Advertising
Make your money go further with leaflets, direct mail or email – not costly print or radio. Remember it’s always better to spend money on an offer than on an ad, and always better to spend money on an ad than on a delivery method.
3. Being Too Nice
When you’re running your own business, it can be tempting to be everyone’s friend. But sometimes, you need be ruthless in your pursuit of home business success. Stop offering discounts and excuses for your prices. Your services are worth it!
4. Not Using the Phone
You’d be surprised just how common it is to be afraid of using the phone. Talking to customers on the phone is almost as good as meeting them in person AND much better than sending letters and emails. Do what you have to do to overcome phone shyness.
5. Hiring Professionals for Everything
Don’t hire a professional unless you can demonstrate that the service they’re going to provide will increase your profits by more than the amount you’re spending – if you’re not sure, try doing it yourself first. You can always upgrade it later.
